Indexed Growth Illustration

See how a hypothetical fixed index annuity — with a cap rate and a 0% floor — would have performed across real historical S&P 500 years, compared side-by-side with a steady fixed-rate account.

This is a hypothetical educational illustration, not a quote or projection for any actual product. It applies your chosen cap rate and a 0% floor to the S&P 500's actual historical annual returns (dividends included). Real indexed annuities typically credit interest based on the index's price movement only — excluding dividends — which is usually lower than the total-return figures used here. Actual caps, participation rates, and floors vary by carrier and contract, and change over time.

Year S&P 500 Return Credited Rate Indexed Annuity Balance Fixed-Rate Balance
How this is calculated: each year, if the S&P 500's return for that year was positive, the "credited rate" is the smaller of that return or your chosen cap rate. If the index return was zero or negative, the credited rate is 0% (the floor) — the hypothetical account never loses value from market declines in this illustration, but it also earns nothing in a down year. The fixed-rate account simply compounds at your chosen rate every year regardless of the market. Past performance does not guarantee or predict future results.
